Radio Kerry

Wind worn fencing on Bolus Head

I tuned into Radio Kerry for the first time yesterday. And the three bits of news I caught were the death notices, announced four times a day, by request, in thorough detail or memorial, flowers, after gathering, family remaining and so on. The tide, which at first, I thought was a metaphor and then realized was literally that the tide had turned in Portmagee and Valencia.

And the weather, which I didn’t listen to as it would seem hard to forecast for all of Kerry. One side of Bolus Head alone, the small peninsula, maybe 8 km out and back, where I am staying has different weather 5 minutes from the next. I am not sure how they could forecast for the whole Iveragh Peninsula never mind the whole of County Kerry.

But this was the news on Kerry Radio the Saturday of the St Patrick’s Day Bank holiday.

Although derelict and no longer owned by my mothers family, I always stop by the Donahue family home when I am in Caherdaniel.
