On the road again !
Ice road trucker style through Yellowstone, slow and steady, with hazards flashing in the midst of a blizzard.
It’s always great to see wildlife, and especially when you are alone in the wilderness in a storm. The moose was hunkered down by the river out of the wind. I have seen coyotes and eagles in this northwest corner of Yellowstone.
There is something quintessentially American about roadtripping, particularly when it is across the west. Throw in a good blizzard to clear the roads and flush out the wildlife and you have yourself an adventure.
The West Yellowstone Grizzly and Wolf Discovery Center allows a chance to see animals who are still wild up close, to better educate the public about these extraordinary animals. The wolves bought from breeder and allowed to be free in packs, and the bears saved from being killed when they have become too habituated to humans, due to bad human habits and become a threat. Here, along with otters and other wild critters, they teach us so much. And sometimes looking at them, you can tell they are assessing you just as much, perhaps more so.
Downtown West Yellowstone, blissfully empty during the snowstorm except for a few crazy drivers (like myself) and many thrilled snowmobilers. This is said to be the snow mobile capital of the world. But on a day like this even they were inside at the bar.
Hell's Half Acre, a great area of geologic interest, lava flows, craters and cracks in southwest Idaho. Someday I will make it to Crater's of the Moon National Monument, but in the meantime this was an awesome moody find!
