Chobe National Park, Botswana

Chobe National Park in Botswana is famed for its abundant wildlife, best seen from a water safari, and is an amazing region where Botswana, Namibia, Zambia and Zimbabwe all come together along the mighty Zambezi River - the only intersection of four countries in the world.  This is one of many areas I hope to return to, and travel west across the Caprivi region of Namibia. Kudus were one of the dozens of antelope type beasts throughout areas we traveled, which were the only category of animal I was really confounded by, mixing up Springbok, Gemsbok, Steenbok, Blesboks, Oryx, Impala, Hartebeest, Duiker and Gazelle pretty much every time. Seeing hippos this close in a boat (they have a reputation for sinking boats) was a bit terrifying, but also totally surreal.  The Chobe Hippos are acclimated to respectful boats, and listening to the whale like "pfffft" sounds of the pod as they surface to breath and watching them graze in the submerged grass with their babies was a dream.

The watercolor pastels of sunset in the Chobi, looking west across Namibia were some of the most stunning light I saw in Africa, and that is a tough contest.
